Worcester native Peter Hughes studied violin with distinguished teachers Sarah Scriven, Eric Rosenblith and Janet Packer. In 1973 Peter was the Worcester Orchestra’s youngest professional, admitted at age fifteen. He played under the batons of world class conductors including Michael Tilson Thomas and Joseph Silverstein. A scholarship student in violin performance at both the New England Conservatory and Longy School of Music, Peter also completed with honors advanced music theory programs with Judy Ross, Eric Sawyer and the late Albert Bernard. Mr. Hughes has played in numerous settings in the greater Boston area for the last three decades including The Lyric Stage of Boston, The Reagle Players, Speakeasy Stage Company, Life Story Theater, Boston Children's Theater, and the Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Plymouth and New Bedford Symphonies. Peter has taught scores of students of all ages since 1998 when he started teaching at the Boston Music Company. He moved to Worcester in 2001 and quickly became established in several local area music programs.
I want to contribute to the cultural life of Central Massachusetts the best way I know how. My teachers had an immeasurable effect on my life, on my development as an individual. When I realize that I am engaging in the same line of work as my beloved teacher Sarah Scriven, who passed away more than a decade ago, I am filled with pride and an awesome sense of responsibility. When I realize that I have the opportunity to positively influence my students' lives as Sarah did, I feel inspired, and I ponder all the more deeply my duties as a teacher.
This website is perhaps a private and public declaration of a particular pledge--I want to reply at some level to the unparalleled kindness of my teachers Grant Rudnicki, Georgette Savaria, Sarah Scriven, Eric Rosenblith and Janet Packer, and to all the great influences I have encountered in my lifetime including my Uncle Barry, my wife Maise, and my wonderful sisters, Sarah and Jenny--last but not least, my dear mother and father, who continue to this day to practice their violin and cello.
